Children must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.
Children who are ill with a fever or contagious disease may not use the playspace.
Verbal abuse of any child is strictly prohibited.
Spanking, shaking or striking of any child is strictly prohibited.
Rough play or running chases are not permitted.
No smoking in the library or around the library entrance.
No parties or private functions are permitted during normal operating hours.
Only nursing or bottle feeding in the playspace all other food and drinks (including sippy cups) must be kept in the kitchen out of reach of little ones.
Supervise children closely while eating. Please remove any leftover food and clean up when your child is done eating. Please observe all eating area signs and take note of restricted food areas to assist children with allergies.
Adults should accompany their child to the bathroom (one unisex bathroom is located behind the library area in the front of the playspace). Please wash hands, clean potty seats if used, and deposit dirty diapers in the trash bin outside in the parking area.
Stay with your child while they are doing art in the art area. Clean all paint brushes and put away art supplies when your child is finished.
Monitor infant toys and kitchen toys closely! Any toy placed in a child's mouth must be deposited in a toy cleaning bucket when the child is done playing with it. It will be washed by volunteers and returned to the floor the next day.
Adults are responsible for putting toys away for 10 minutes before leaving.
Playspace Guidelines have been established to make the PTLL as enjoyable as possible. The Board of Directors reserves the right to cancel the membership or toy borrowing privileges of anyone who repeatedly violates these rules.
We do our best to keep the Toy Library clean. Every August, the Toy Library is completely closed so that everything in it can be completely cleaned. Throughout the year, a regularly scheduled cleaning service certainly helps. But with so much traffic through the PTLL, once-a-week cleaning is not enough. All PTLL users need to pitch in, but it doesn't have to be an experience in drudgery.
Here are a few simple things you can do to help every time you visit:
Watch babies and toddlers closely, and if they put toys in their mouths, put them in one of the blue buckets hanging on the walls (the toys, not the babies). These toys are cleaned every morning by the volunteer on duty and returned to the play floor at the end of the day by the closing volunteer.
If your child has a runny nose, please make sure to wipe often. There is usually a box of tissues on the front desk. Toys that come into contact with nose drippings or a finger that has been exploring a nostril should likewise be put in the blue buckets.
After your child finishes a snack or lunch, take a moment to wipe off the table and sweep up the crumbs. There are spray bottles of Simple Green cleanser, paper towels, and a broom and dustpan in the kitchen. There is also a new mop with disposable wet cloths for getting to spills before they become ant magnets.
If you see a mess that needs attention, please let the volunteer on duty know right away.
If you are the closing VOD, try to take a few minutes to vacuum before you lock up. The rugs in the entryway and the carpet in the infant area are especially important, but if you have time, try to do the art and book areas, too. The vacuum is in the closet behind the front desk.
Another way you can help is to participate in a toy cleaning. Look for announcements at the Toy Library for regularly scheduled toy cleaning events. The more people we have to help, the less work everyone will have to do.
